History and Mandate

The Department of Livestock Products Technology was established at Veterinary College and Research Institute, Theni in the year 2023 to offer quality education to B.V.Sc. & A.H. students.

Objectives

Education:

To impart knowledge to the Under-graduate degree students in the discipline of Livestock Products Technology.

Research:

To conduct research on need based field and industry-oriented problems.

Extension:

To conduct training programmes and demonstrations on value addition of livestock products to the farmers, entrepreneurs, rural youths and Self-Help Group Women.

Education

As per the MSVE-2016 regulations prescribed by the Veterinary Council of India, the Department of Livestock Products Technology offers the following under-graduate course with 4 units for III Professional year students.

Livestock Products Technology (2+1)

Unit–I : Milk and Milk Products Technology
Unit–II : Wool Science
Unit–III : Abattoir Practices and Animal By-products Technology
Unit–IV : Meat Science

Extension

Conducted World Egg Day, National Milk Day & Capacity Build Program for Self-Help Group Women members
A training Programme on “Operation and Quality Management in Dairy” under NPDD scheme was conducted by the Department of Livestock Products Technology, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Theni for the benefit of Aavin staff, Theni
Conducted 25 days skill development training programme on “Milk and Milk Products Processing Assistant” under Vetri Nichayam scheme was conducted by the Department of Livestock Products Technology, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Theni for the benefit of entrepreneurs, unemployed youth and women self-help group
“National Milk Day Celebration - 2025” was conducted by the Department of Livestock Products Technology, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Theni in collaboration with Indian Dairy Association, Tamil Nadu Chapter to the BVSc & AH students
