Veterinary College and Research Institute, Tirunelveli was established as the third constituent college of Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (Tamil Nadu government G.O. Ms. No. 93, Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries (AH-6) Department dated 24/08/2011) in the year 2012 with a total area of 139.21 acres of land to cater the needs of the drought-prone district farmers of southern Tamil Nadu.
Fifteen academic departments, Veterinary Clinical Complex and Livestock Farm Complex have been established with necessary manpower, floor space and equipments, as per the Veterinary Council of India (VCI) requirements, The administrative building houses the Dean’s office, Education cell, Library, Physical Education department, Bio-Engineering department and Auditorium. Besides, there are ten separate buildings housing the various departments with excellent facilities for education, research and extension.
Veterinary College and Research Institute, Tirunelveli desires to be an institution of national excellence in providing education and pursuing research in the field of veterinary and animal sciences and disseminate scientific knowledge and skills for enhanced livestock and poultry production. It is possible only by the presence of qualified and dedicated teaching faculty. This college has a ratio of one teacher for every 5.8 students. Most of the teachers possess the doctoral degree and many of them are trained in national and foreign laboratories.
