Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology

Objectives

  • To impart Undergraduate and Postgraduate education to the students of VC and RI, Namakkal
  • To provide surgical treatment to sick animals and to train UG’s and PG’s in management of clinical cases
  • To offer guidance to research students
  • To provide information to the animal owners in prevention and management of sick animals by way of extension activities
  • Functions as a referral unit for the neighboring districts of Namakkal

The following units function under the department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology.

  • Large Animal outpatient unit: Cattle, Sheep, Goats and Buffaloes are treated for surgical conditions at the out patient unit. Animals are admitted in In-Patient unit, which require Post-Operative care and management.
  • Small Animal Outpatient unit: Dogs and cats are treated in this outpatient unit as outpatient. Rarely, Avian species are treated as and when referred to the ward.
  • Radiology Unit: This unit has an 800-mA X-ray machine. An average of 60 number of X-rays are processed daily facilitating quicker diagnosis and treatment.
  • Small Animal Operation Theatre: The theatre is equipped to handle all types of surgeries. Soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries are routinely performed.
  • Physiotherapy unit: This unit is equipped with Ultrasound massage and interferential therapy, muscle nerve stimulator apart from facilities for U-V and I-R radiation.

Sur 411 (0+1) VII Semester Principles of General Surgery,

Anesthesiology, Radiology and Orthopedics

CT Sur 420 (0+1) VIII Semester Clinical Training

Sur 421 (3+1) VIII Semester Small Animal Surgery

CT Sur 510 (0+1) IX Semester Clinical Training

Sur 511 (3+1) IX Semester Large Animal Surgery

  • Strengthening of orthopedic wing and establishment of an orthopedic unit
  • Establishment of an ophthalmology unit
  • Establishment of X-ray library
