VETERINARY COLLEGE AND RESEARCH INSTITUTE, NAMAKKAL

DEPARTMENT OF ANIMAL REPRODUCTION, GYNAECOLOGY & OBSTETRICS

  • To impart undergraduate and postgraduate education to the students of Veterinary College and Research Institute, Namakkal
  • To provide artificial insemination service to the bovines at hospital Campus.
  • To provide infertility treatments to all the farm and pet animals.
  • To provide obstetrical emergency treatments to all the farm and pet animals.
  • To offer farm advisory services for the benefits of the farming community by conducting and attending mass contact programmes.
  • To impart training to the field veterinarians about the recent advances in the field of Animal Reproduction, Gynaecology and Obstetrics.
  • To conduct basic and applied research in the Veterinary Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

This department offers following undergraduate courses

OGY 411 - Pattern of reproduction in male and female farm animals (2+1)
OGY 412 - Physiology and accidents of gestation in farm animals (3+0)
CT - OGY-410 Clinical training (0+1)

OGY 421 - Parturition and postparturient complications in farm animals (2+1)
CT - OGY 420 Clinical training (0+1)

OGY 511 - Infertility and its management in female and male farm animals (2+0)
CT - OGY 510 - Clinical Training (0+1) .

  • This department offers PG courses from 1999-2000 onwards.
  • Two Ph.D. students have completed their research work in this department.
  • One PG student has completed his M.V.Sc., programme.
  • This department also gives training to the field veterinarians. It has conducted
    two national level training on " Hormone substitution therapy for infertility ".
  • Further, it involves in the treatment of infertile cases in the hospital campus
    during OP hours and attending Obstetrical emergency cases round the clock in
    the hospital campus.
  • Staff of this department are regularly participating and rendering services to the
    rural mass through mass contact programmes and infertility campaigns.
  • Till date this department has guided 5 students research projects funded by Tamil
    Nadu State Council for Science and Technology, Chennai.
  • * ICAR Project on " Effect of macro and micro minerals to augment fertility in
    infertile bovine of Namakkal district" has been approved and pending for budget
    allotment.

One student project entitled "Human chorionic Gonadotrophin administration in
the treatment of repeat breeder crossbred cows" guided by Dr.M.Selvaraju has
received second prize for best presentation from Tamil Nadu State Council for
Science and Technology, Chennai.
