DEPARTMENT OF VETERINARY PHYSIOLOGY AND BIOCHEMISTRY
The department of Physiology is as old as the Madras Veterinary College. The subject of Physiology is taught in the first and second year of BVSc course and a MVSc course is offered from 1959 and PhD from 1984.
The research achievement includes Starling Heart Lung machine for isolated heart perfusion (1957), Isolated coronary perfusion apparatus for cat (1961), Blood pressure recording device for dogs (1964), Serum alkaline phosphatase strain for increased egg production (1978), Rumen manipulation to increase microbial protein by dimethylol urea (1994), Immuno endocrinology to increase broiler growth (1998) and establishment of biochemical and hematological profile for all domestic animals and profile of reproduction in buffaloes (1995).
So for, 52 students had completed their MVSc and 7 students their Ph.D.
