MADRAS VETERINARY COLLEGE

BIOINFORMATICS CENTRE AND ARIS CELL

The Dept. of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India has established a nationwide Bioinformatics network in India namely BTISNet in 1986-87 with more than 61 Bioinformatics Centres. The main purpose of this network is to harness the scientific knowledge of rapid advancement in Bioinformatics and Biotechnology and sustainable utilization of biological resources for the betterment of nation. Madras Veterinary College at TANUVAS has been identified as one of the node in BTIS Network which was established during 1990-91 with following objectives to cater to the needs of scientists of Veterinary, Animal and Fishery Sciences in the field of Bioinformatics and Biotechnology.

  • To act as a node for acquisition and dissemination of information related to biotechnology
  • To get on-line and off-line information and disseminate to end users
  • Data retrieval
  • Building up resource database and information sharing in areas of Biotechnology
