Centre of Advanced Studies

This department was recognised as the Centre of Advanced Studies in Clinical Medicine by Indian Council of Agricultural Research in 1995. Since then the teachers of various State Agricultural Universities /Veterinary Colleges are trained on the recent developments in the field of clinical medicine twice a year.

Referral Clinics

The referral clinic of this department is equipped with modern diagnostic equipment like Ultrasonograph, Gastrofibroscope and Bronchoscope (for large and small animals and birds), EEG, ECG, Hemodialyser, Slit lamp biomicroscope and other basic diagnostic equipment.

Education

Apart from teaching clinical medicine and imparting clinical ward training to the UG students, this department also coordinates the internship-training programme. As the Centre of Advanced Studies in Clinical Medicine, 50% of the PG seats are reserved for candidates outside the Tamil Nadu State. Since, the department is equipped with modern diagnostic facilities and better expertise, there has been a good demand for the PG course.

Continuing education

National training programmes are conducted twice a year with 30 days and 21 days duration respectively for training the teachers of State Agricultural Universities /Veterinary Colleges. Training programmes on the following topics are also conducted regularly.

• Study course on Ruminant Medicine
• Fluid therapy for the Veterinary Practitioners
• Ultrasonography for the Veterinary Practitioners
• Endoscopy in Veterinary Practice

Disease investigations

This department deputes experts for disease investigations during disease outbreaks in the State.

Research

Research programmes on cardiology, hepatology, dermatology, rumen medicine, mastitis etc. are continuously being done.
