TRAINING

This institute has so far organised 170 on and off campus training programmes in different fishery trades, such as ornamental fish culture, freshwater prawn farming, hygienic handling of fish and fishery products, preparation of value-added fishery products, etc for the benefit of fish farmers, fishermen, entrepreneurs and fish processors. Among 4,500 persons trained, about 300 have started their fishery trade activities relating to aquaculture and fish processing and product manufacture.

Services offered

  • The Department of Fish Processing offers consultancy services on the preparation of value-added fish and fishery products.
  • Samples brought from fish processing plants are tested on charge basis for their microbiological, organoleptic and physical characteristics.
  • The Department of Fisheries Environment has been helping the seafood processing plants to put up their own cost effective effluent treatment units.
  • The Department of Aquaculture provides technical support to fish and shrimp farmers in the construction and maintenance of fish and shrimp farms and in the diagnosis and treatment of fish and shrimp diseases.
