- Training on improved technologies in fishing and other income-generating activities was found to provide a source of job opportunity for the aspirant youth in Punnakayal fishing village.
- Leased-in tanks were economically more feasible and financially more viable than owned tanks in Kanyakumari district as shown by shorter PBP of tank-based fish culture.
- There was inverse relationship between pond size and input use / output realisation and similarly as the tank size decreased, profitability increased in Kanyakumari district.
- The rates of depreciation estimated for vallams, catamarans and mechanised boats were 9.06%, 8.51% and 8.43% , respectively in Chidambaranar district.
- The crewshare formula for the mechanized craft category was 60:40 (Owner: Crew) and it was 50:50 in the motorized craft category in Kanyakumari district.
- Self Help Group is a potential tool for fisherwomen empowerment and their welfare development. The microcredit lent to them has been well utilized. Most of the SHGs are functioning regularly. Over 95% of the SHGs are saving regularly and the president and treasurer of the SHGs deposit the savings into a joint account. Financial analysis shows that over 90% of the SHGs availed credit from the State Bank of India, Punnakkayal and over 95% of them have repaid the credit. As in February 2000, the SHGs saved a substantial sum of Rs.6.2 lakhs and the total money transacted among the members of the SHGs is Rs.13.20 lakhs, something remarkable.
