The Director of Research has the following duties and responsibilities:
- Co-ordinates all research activities in the University in co-operation with Deans and is directly responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for initiation, guidance and co-ordination of the research programmes of the University;
- The controlling officer of Research Stations and Institutes specifically attached to him by the Vice-Chancellor.
- Publishes regularly Research Bulletins, articles in scientific journals which summarise practical research findings of the works carried out in the University and is the Chairman of the Editorial Board of Cheiron, the Tamil Nadu Journal of Veterinary Sciences.
- Represents, under the direction of the Vice-Chancellor the University in conferences regarding research.
- The principal liaison officer for detailing with aid granting agencies such as ICAR, UGC, DST, FERRO, etc., and other private agencies;
- Works in close consultation with the Deans of Colleges and the Director of Extension Education in formulating research policies and programmes of the University and;
- Member–Secretary of Research Council, formulates and presents research policies and projects to the Research Council for its consideration.
