The Director of Extension Education has the following duties and responsibilities:
- Plans and executes all extension programmes and activities in close consultation and co-operation with the Deans and the Directors.
- Directly responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for effecting close collaboration and co-ordination of the extension work based on the record of the University with the Departments of Animal Husbandry and Fisheries, Tamilnadu Poultry Development Corporation, TamilNadu Fisheries Development Corporation, TamilNadu Co-operative Milk Producers’ Federation Limited etc., of the State Government.
- The principal liaison officer, under the direction of Vice-Chancellor, for dealing with such agencies that are concerned in the matter of extension education.
- Guides and supervises the working of the communication centre dealing with publications, bulletins, popular articles, etc., audio visual aids, Radio, Press and other materials directed towards the successful implementation of the extension education programmes
- Represents the University in conferences regarding extension education and is the Member–Secretary of Extension Education Council.
- Supervises and controls the extension education activities of the University.
- In close consultation with the concerned Government Departments and responsible to provide them with the improved research findings of the University and shall further, in consultation with the concerned Government Departments. Cause to publish extension bulletins, circulars, news articles and press releases, which summarise important research findings for the benefit of the farming community.
- Formulates and presents to the Extension Education Council policies and programmes of the Extension Education activities of the University.
